The Scarlet Tanager returns in early May. The male is brilliant red with black wings. The female is greenish yellow with black wings. The Scarlet Tanager's song is similar to a Robin's but with a rough tone. "A Robin with a sore throat". The call note "chick-burr" is very distinctive. Listen
