One of the students' favorite signs of spring comes at the end of March or early in April. The smell (and taste) of leeks in the woods is an unmistakable sign of spring coming. Look for leeks in the forest. If there is any doubt about identification break off a small piece of leaf and check for the strong onion-like smell.
