About Sandhill Nature Education

The Pheno-log Program

Pheno-log is a phenology recording project designed for use by schools and individuals in Northwestern Lower Michigan (Leelanau, Benzie and Grand Traverse Counties). Participants watch and listen for seasonal changes and keep track of the dates on which they occur. Anyone is welcome to make use of the Pheno-log website. If you live outside the Leelanau, Benzie, and Grand Traverse county area you can use Pheno-log to compare the progress of spring here with that in your area.

About Sandhill Nature Education

Sandhill Nature Education is dedicated to providing information about, and encouraging appreciation of, the natural world in the Grand Traverse and Sleeping Bear Dunes area.

Since 1990 I have worked with the staff and students at Glen Lake School and with the Northwestern Michigan College Extended Education program. Now that my children have “fledged” I have time to work more with other schools, and groups of all ages, to help people understand and enjoy the natural world.

My programs are “action-based”: Students observe, experiment, and play learning games appropriate for their age group. Most of the activities are best conducted outdoors and can be located in any natural area near your school, or if you prefer, a field trip at another place of your choice. Some can be conducted on a playground, and some can be adapted for indoor presentation.
